The Department of the Air Force is planning to stand up a new wing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, to provide administrative support to 1,300 Reserve personnel working there. These personnel are currently supported by three different command components at Luke AFB, Arizona, Patrick AFB, Florida, and Tucson Airport, Arizona.

Creating a local wing structure at Davis-Monthan AFB will provide unity of command and allow for more efficient and effective support of personnel.

With the establishment of the new wing, the Air Force expects a total of 69 full and part-time positions.

The units in need of local administrative support are:  the 943rd Rescue Group, which conducts day and night combat rescue missions; the 924th Fighter Group, an
A-10 Thunderbolt II Formal Training Unit; the 610th Command and Control Squadron, which provides communications support to combatant commanders worldwide; and the 720th Security Forces Squadron.

The Air Force will now complete the required environmental analysis before a final basing decision is made with personnel beginning to arrive in spring 2021.
