Oregon Senator tours Guardian Angel Squadron

U.S Air Force Reservists at the 304th Rescue Squadron here, treated Oregon Sen. Martha Schrader (D), to an in-depth look at their rescue abilities January 9, 2011.

Senator Schrader visited the Guardian Angel squadron, where she learned the general background of its pararescue mission and recent accomplishments. She toured the facilities with pararescuemen, who are highly specialized personnel recovery specialists, and learned about some of the gear they operate with during rescue operations.

Later, she attended an awards ceremony where she addressed unit Airmen.

The 304th RQS is a geographically separated unit (GSU) from the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.

The 920th Rescue Wing is an Air Force Reserve Command combat-search-and-rescue unit headquartered in Cocoa Beach, Fla. 

In addition to the Guardian Angel Weapons System, made up of pararescuemen, combat rescue officers and search, evasion, resistance, escape specialists, the wing is equipped with the HH-60G Pave Hawks helicopters, HC-130P/N King fixed-wing refueling aircraft and 1,500 Airmen, to perform its mission of saving lives. They live by the motto, these thing we, that other may live.
