Tenth Air Force Welcomes New Commander

Brig. Gen. Brian K. Borgen assumed command of the Tenth Air Force from Maj. General Ronald B. “Bruce” Miller during a change of command ceremony on May 10 at the Naval Operational Support Center Drill Hall here.

Lt. Gen. Richard W. Scobee, Chief of Air Force Reserve, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., and Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, officiated the ceremony, which formally transferred authority and responsibility for the numbered air force.

During the address to those in attendance, Lt. Gen. Scobee thanked Miller for his service over the years and welcomed Borgen to the team.

“General Miller, your hard work and commitment for so many years has been absolutely critical to what the Air Force Reserve has done and the success we have had,” said Scobee. “General Borgen, I have the utmost confidence in you to lead this incredible organization. Your experience and knowledge proves your capabilities for this Numbered Air Force. I’m proud to take you on as the Tenth Air Force commander and I’m excited for the work we are going to do together.”

After receiving the unit flag, Borgen gave his first speech as the Commander of the Tenth Air Force.

“Thank you for coming out and honoring the Tenth Air Force on this very special day,” said Borgen. “I want to give special thanks to my wife. I can’t do anything without you. I make things work because of you, and I’m excited to take on this journey with you.”
Borgen went on to thank Miller for his service and the work that was done before him.

“Our leadership across the Air Force Reserve Command is amazing,” said Borgen. “It’s going to be tough to top the work you have done, but I am ready for the challenge.”

Borgen previously served as the Mobilization Assistant to the Director of Operations, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. He augmented the A3 Director responsible to the Commander, Air Combat Command, on all matters pertaining to the direct operational planning, training, command and controlling functions to deploy and employ regular and Reserve component combat air forces, including more than 1,900 aircraft, in support of U.S. security objectives.

Borgen is a veteran of numerous operations and contingencies in support of national objectives. He deployed numerous times to Aviano Airbase, Italy, to fly in support of Operation Deny Flight; Al Jaber AB, Kuwait, flying combat missions for Operation Southern Watch; Bagram AB, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; Tallil AB, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and Incirlik AB, Turkey, in support of Operation Northern Watch. Brig. Gen. Borgen has earned numerous medals and awards for his achievements, including the Afghanistan and Iraq campaign medals for his achievements while deployed. He is a command pilot with more than 3,900 combined hours in the A-10 and T-38.

As the Tenth Air Force commander, Borgen will provide leadership, management and supervision and will be responsible for the organization, training and equipping of the Tenth Air Force.

Tenth Air Force is responsible for all Air Force Reserve fighter, bomber, remotely piloted aircraft, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, special operations, rescue, space and cyberspace missions with units spread throughout the United States. It directs the activities of nearly 20,000 reserve, active duty and civilian personnel located at 37 military installations throughout the United States.

The mission of the Tenth Air force is to organize, train and equip mission-ready Tenth Air Force Reserve Citizen Airmen to fly, fight and win, in air, space and cyberspace.
