In the 2008 version of the annual competition that singles out the best writers, photographers and graphic artists in the Air Force Reserve, one wing stood head-and-shoulders above the rest.

Airmen from the 920th Rescue Wing here walked away with nearly half of the 2008 Air Force Reserve Command Media Contest awards, which were announced Friday by Reserve Commander Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner.

Of the 17 individual awards to be had, rescue wing members won 8, while the remaining awards were split among 8 different units.

Members of the 920th Public Affairs office won six awards, while the awards for best "stringer" submissions -- entries by non-public affairs Airmen -- were won by a combat search and rescue navigator from the HC-130 squadron and a nursing administrator from the aeromedical staging squadron (ASTS).

The winners by category are:

Sports Article - Tech. Sgt. Paul Flipse, "Wheels of Fortune"
Series - Master Sgt. Raymond Padgett, "Dirty Jobs"
Art/Graphics - Tech. Sgt. Paul Flipse, "Never Say Die"
News Photograph - Tech. Sgt. Paul Flipse, "Texas Flood"

All of the winning entries were forwarded to the Pentagon to compete in the Air Force Media Contest, the results of which are expected to be announced Feb. 25.
