DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- Air Force Reservists Staff Sgt. Kyle Cole (left) and Senior Airman John Fusco test the Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) system on an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter. Unlike night vision technology, which relies on availible light to create an image, FLIR senses heat from any source -- personnel, vehicles, animals, etc. The system helps search-and-rescue pilots locate people in conditions such as fog, smoke or darkness, conditions that would normally make rescue work impossible. The 920th Rescue Wing provides combat search and rescue support during wartime, and also provides civilian search and rescue support, humanitarian relief and NASA launch support.
