Maj. Joseph Cortez took command of the 920th Security Forces Squadron during a change of command ceremony here Sep. 7, 2024.

The change of command ceremony is a military tradition that formally signifies the transfer of responsibility and authority from one commanding officer to another; symbolized through the passing of a guidon.

Cortez, a 2011 U.S. Air Force Academy graduate, has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout four major commands; including assignments at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey and Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. His extensive experience includes positions including operations officer, chief of security forces operations, and commander.

"As your new commander, I am committed to giving my absolute best every day. Together, we will execute our mission safely, professionally, and with innovation; ensuring we protect those in need and secure our resources wherever we are called to serve," said Cortez

The 920th SFS trains and deploys security forces personnel to provide Air Base defense, physical security, law enforcement and resource protection missions in peacetime and combat environments.
