Col. Peter A. Wojciechowski assumed command of the 920th Rescue Wing Maintenance Group on April 11 during a change-of-command ceremony held here at 10 a.m.

Colonel Wojciechowski replaced Col. Charlene Nelson, who served as the 920th Maintenance Group Commander since April 2010. Colonel Nelson is now assigned as the 482nd Fighter Wing Maintenance Group Commander, Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida.

"Humbled, honored and blessed to work with the best maintainers in the world," said Colonel Wojciechowski regarding his new assignment.

In his previous assignment, Colonel Wojciechowski, A Sag Harbour, New York native, served as 476th Maintenance Squadron Commander, Moody AFB, Georgia.

As the new maintenance group commander for one of the world's busiest Air Force Reserve Wings, Colonel Wojciechowski is responsible for worldwide rapid deployment and employment of combat-ready, mission-capable HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters and HC-130P/N King fixed wing refueling aircraft in support of Air Force Reserve Command deployments, civilian search and rescue missions and all rocket launches from Florida's Space Coast.

The colonel entered the Air Force in 1981. He served on active duty for four years before joining the Air Force Reserve. He was commissioned in 1994 through the Direct Commissioning Program.

In his current position, he is an Air Reserve Technician (ART). This is a dual-duty position involving both civil service employment and military enlistment simultaneously.

He is married to the former Victoria Leiker of Hays, Kansas and they have five children.

Colonel Wojciechowski has been deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Noble Eagle.
