The newly formed Air Force Reserve security forces squadron at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz. conducted its first group training event utilizing the extensive weapons range on the Southern Arizona Army post.

The newly minted 920th Mission Support Group Detachment One, security forces unit, utilized its annual tour to train and build esprit de corps among its members. The unit qualified unit members on small arms, conducted land navigation training and also urban warfare tactics.

"The majority of the training was conducted using the available Air Force training material, however we drew upon some of the law enforcement experiences of our traditional reservists that work in the law enforcement career fields to better enhance the quality our training," said Master Sgt. Hector Dominguez, Det. 1, 920 MSG.

"During the training, everybody is getting to know each other and are starting to work together; we are now becoming a unit," said Dominguez.

For the participants in the two-week classroom and hands-on training evolution, the training has proven invaluable.

"This training is preparing us, so when we get into theater we have a basic knowledge of the things to expect, and also to counter what the enemy can do to you," said Tech. Sgt. Stephanie Santiago-Warren, Det. 1, 920 MSG and full time college student.

All of the Det. 1, 920 MSG Security Forces Airmen come from a variety of civilian backgrounds and law enforcement agencies, and each unit member had something unique to contribute to the units first training exercise together.

"There are other law enforcement agencies out here; federal agents, marshals, board patrol and there are also many other different jobs represented as well," said Tech. Sgt. Jorge Maleno, Det. 1, 920 MSG. "I believe everyone has different leadership styles and traits, you get to see that because everyone is allowed to be put in a leadership position and learn from each other."
