Employers of 920th Rescue Wing reservists applaud after watching pararescuemen demonstrate a battlefield medical check, topped off by the simulated casualty receiving a real IV. The employers were invited by their Air Force Reserve employees to Patrick Air Force base for Employer Appreciation Day, during which empoyers were treated to flights on a HC-130 Hercules aircraft and a HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, as well as a memorable demonstration by the pararescuemen.

An Air Force Reserve Combat Rescue Crew from the 920th Rescue Wing gave Air Force Thunderbird pilots a lift prior to the 13th Annual Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show to avoid delays from heavy traffic expected in the area. The Rescue Wing crews were there to participate in the air show as were the Thunderbirds.

Senior Master Steven Schwarz, 301st Rescue Squadron flight engineer, harnassed five Thunderbird pilots into an HH-60G Pave Hawk who he and his crewmen flew prior to the 13th annual Florida Air & Sea Show to help them avoid traffic delays getting to their aircraft which were in parked at an airport in Miami. The Rescue Wing Airmen were there to perform a combat search and rescue demonstration in the air show.

Rescue Wing Reservists SrA Ron Arroyo, and Tech Sgt. Dean Peterson, both helicopter maintenance crew chiefs with the 920th Maintenance Squadron service a rotor blade dampiner on an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter during a preflight inspection while deployed to Afghanistan as part of an Air Force Aerospace Expeditionary Force rotation. The 920th Rescue Wing‘s primary mission is to provide combat search and rescue operations anywhere in the world as directed.

Shock & Awe helps educates teens on dangerous driving
Senior Master Sgt. Rene Rubiella, who lost his 18-year-old daughter, Allie, in an automobile accident in 2005, talks to high school seniors attending Operation Not on Our Watch. This event has become an an annual event at the Rescue Wing along with its community partners to help reduce the number of teen driving deaths in Brevard County Fla. due to distracted driving. In recent weeks Sergeant Rubiella has announced that after a recent meeting wiht Florida's Governor, the state of Florida will be mandating Operation NOW throughout Florida and require all high school students to attend a similar program.

Rescue Wing sets the stage for teen driving awareness
Senior Master Sgt. Rene Rubiella, 920th Rescue Wing member, along wiht many community partners, have set the 920th Rescue Wing flightline as the stage for the 2007 Operation NOW event held to help reduce the number of teen driving deaths due to distracted driving. Sergeant Rubiella lost his only daughter at age 18 two years ago in an automobile accident. He is now an advocate for educating teenagers against the dangers of distracted driving and is the Rescue Wing coordinator for its annual Operation NOW event.

Military Appreciation Day
Baseball fans cheered and expressed their appreciation as the 920th Rescue Wing opened a March 8 Washington Nationals Spring Training Game by landing on the field and dropping off the wing commander, Col. Steve Kirkpatrick escorted by two pararescuemen, to throw out the first pitch. After the pitch, Col. Kirkpatrick and the two PJs were greeted by the pitcher then walked off the field to a flurry a "military fans" who cheered them on.

Unrivaled Honor Guard
The Honor Guard from Patrick Air Force Base presented the colors during opening ceremonies at a March 8 Washington Nationals Spring Training Game at the Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla. The honor guard is comprised of Active Duty and Reserve Airman from the 45th Space Wing and the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick AFB, respectively. Maj. Chad Gibson, 403rd Wing Public Affairs Officer saluted the honor guard after they presented the colors during his rendition of the national anthem.

Dr. (Capt.) Karen Mackenzie, 920th aeromedical staging squadron trauma surgeon was instrumental in saving the lives of the 11 of the 14 survivors from the crash of an Army MH-47 special operations helicopter in Afghanistan February 18.
