Combat-search-and-rescue pilot Capt. Jason Tomas, 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., who is used to running in incredible heat, thought recent 50-mile ultra-marathon that he ran was tough because of the heat. While the cool wind on the bridges was “heavenly,” he saw a lot of people fall out of the race because of the heat (lower to mid 90s), especially in the hotter interiors of some of the larger keys where the trees blocked the five-knot quartering tailwind.
