Measuring the wind
SUMMERSIDE, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND, Canada- Master Corporal Eric Lemieux, 413 Squadron Greenwood, Nova Scotia parachute rigger, uses an anemometer to measure the wind speed. The wind speed is a factor in determining whether or not the Canadian Search and Rescue Technicians (SARTechs) and U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen can perform jumps. During the jump camp, PJs and SARTechs performed ongoing sky dives from the HC-130s onto both open and confined drop zones (DZ) from heights ranging from 3,000 to 12,500 ft.
