Helo crew awarded for heroics
KHANDAHAR AIR FIELD, Afghanistan - First Lt. Brough McDonald (now Captain) pre-flights an HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter before he and his crew begins their shift on alert while deployed here in August 2008. Captain McDonald is a rescue pilot at the 943rd Rescue Group, an Air Force Reserve unit at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Tuscon, Ariz. He and his crew were recently awarded the Thomas E. Marchbanks Award for heroism during a harrowing battlefield medical evacuation mission they performed during this deployment which resulted in rescuing soldiers and crippling the enemy.
