DJIBOUTI, Africa -- A 920th Rescue Wing air crew lands their HC-130P/N aircraft on a dry lake bed during a search and rescue exercise on Grand Bara, Djibouti, Apr. 23. The crew, reservists based at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., is assigned to the 81st Rescue Squadron. The exercise consisted of transporting pararescuemen to a water jump, aerial refueling of a CH-53E helicopter, an assault landing on an unimproved runway, and transloading a simulated survivor from the CH-53E. The 920th Rescue Wing's primary mission is combat search and rescue. But the wing also provides civil search and rescue, contingency medical and rescue support for all NASA space shuttle and rocket launches, as well as humanitarian relief.
