PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Air Force Reservists from the 920th Rescue Wing here train together to perform astronaut recovery for the NASA manned space shuttle launches such as the one scheduled for lift off February 12. Five pararescuemen performed a high altitude low opening jump off of the back ramp of the HC-130P/N Hercules aircraft to hone their parachuting skills should they need to launch a search in rescue mission if something were to happen to the astronauts over the Atlantic Ocean during lift off. The pararescuemen are also trained emergency medical technicians so once they reach a survivor they are able to perform medical treatment until they are able to be transported to a hospital.
