National Geographic films rescue training for documentary
DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz. -- A combat search and rescue mission performed by the 920th Rescue Wing during from Operation Enduring Freedom is scheduled to be immortalized in a one-hour television documentary for the National Geographic Channel. A film crew spent July 21 - 25 at the desert base here filming high-altitude, night-vision and 'brownout' training, during which pilots prepare for landing in the sands of Afghanistan. The rescue being featured in the documentary is the one in which 920th Rescue Wing helicopters rescued ex-Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell was rescued after the rest of his SEAL team were killed. Mr. Luttrell wrote about the order in his novel, "Lone Survivor." In addition to combat search and rescue, the 920th provides civilian search and rescue, humanitarian relief and emergency rescue and medical support for every NASA shuttle and rocket launch.
