Distant Fury Stallion 23

Survival, evasion, resistance, and escape specialists assigned to the 308th Rescue Squadron, 920th Rescue Wing, conduct helocasting from an HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter assigned to the 920th Rescue Wing off of the coast of California during Exercise Distant Fury Stallion 23 on Dec. 7, 2023. Helocasting, a technique used to quickly get military forces into hard-to-reach maritime areas, is accomplished by hovering a helicopter just above the water’s surface while rescue forces jump from the helicopter into the water below as close to the survivor as possible. This joint exercise, in conjunction with Exercise Steel Knight 23.2, presented a uniquely suited opportunity in remote, austere conditions to validate the wing’s interoperability within the joint team while reaffirming the wing’s lethality, precision and ability to fight and win in future operating environments, such as the Indo-Pacific region.
