COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- Air Force Reserve Pararescuemen from the 308th Rescue Squadron parachute into a landing zone established in the Atlantic Ocean off Cocoa Beach as part of a ceremony honoring military men and women, both past and present from the area during a ceremony held Sep. 11 at a local restaurant on Cocoa Beach. The 920th Rescue Wing conducted a Search and Rescue operation involving Pararescuemen parachuting from unit-equipped HC-130P/N aircraft into the ocean and a rescue operation with the unit's HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter which also performed during a air-to-air refueling demonstration with the HC-130P/N. Inside a gaping crevasse at 9,500 feet, Tech Sgt. Anthony Reich, pararescueman, 304th Rescue Squadron, Portland, Ore., carefully makes his way around a couple of large ice blocks that have peeled off a melting glacier on Mount Hood, Ore. September 8. Belaying Sergeant Reich with a safety rope is Staff Sgt. Patrick Dunne, pararescueman, 308th Rescue Squadron, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. The two were part of big weekend search for the bodies of two mountain climbers presumed killed during a firece December snowstorm. An additional four pararescuemen from the 304th RQS and one SERE (search evasion resistance and escape) specialist from the 943rd Rescue Group, Tuscon, Ariz., joined Sergeants Reich and Dunne on the mountain. In all their were 59 climbers, most of them volunteers from civilian moutain groups searching the high country.

CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla. – Pararescuemen from the Air Force Reserve’s 920th Rescue Wing prepare to deploy an inflatable flotation collar during recovery testing on a mockup of the Orion crew exploration vehicle at the Trident Basin at Port Canaveral, Fla., Mar. 8. The collar is designed both to stabilize the capsule after water landing and provide a platform for recovery personnel to stand on during the operation. Orion is targeted to begin carrying humans to the International Space Station in 2015 and to the moon by 2020. Orion is part of the NASA’s Constellation Program.
