CAPE CANAVERAL SPACE FORCE STATION, Fla. -- Pararescuemen and Combat Rescue Officers, assigned to our 308th Rescue Squadron, executed a Mass casualty training exercise at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, March 5.
Simulating a downed aircraft, four American citizens found themselves injured and isolated in a hostile, austere environment. The 301st RQS flew a Guardian Angel team via two HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters to locate and extract the simulated survivors. Following the systematic clearance of a two-story structure, the CSAR teams located, treated and stabilized the survivors for extraction.
Concurrently, the Pararescuemen successfully defended the area, engaging in multiple firefights with encroaching hostile forces to ensure a secure exfiltration.
Mass casualty exercises afford 920th CSAR Airmen invaluable opportunities to hone their proficiency in casualty assessment, triage and extraction procedures. Furthermore, these exercises serve as a platform for the thorough evaluation of equipment, procedures and protocols within a realistic operational setting, facilitating the identification of areas warranting enhancement. Simulating high-stress rescue missions allow for the refinement of strategies and tactics for future operations.
The 920th Rescue Wing is a combined arms team enabled by agile combat support capable of multi-lateral assault on a defended point of incident in a highly contested environment. The wing plans, leads and conducts military rescue operations and missions in order to deny competitors and adversaries exploitation of isolated personnel.
