German SAR Chairman visits 920th Rescue Wing
International Maritime Rescue Federation Chairman Captain Udo Helge Fox, visited the 920th Rescue Wing, at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, June12, 2019. He came to the know the wing after awarding wing Airmen with the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service the Medal of Honor on Ribbon for Rescue Missions at Sea in Gold in a special ceremony held in Berlin, Germany Jan. 26, 2018, at the German Martime Museum. The wing was honored for its rescue of two German citizens, a father and son, whose vessel caught fire approximately 500 nautical miles off the east coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, July 7, 2017. Udo is a Master Mariner and has been Executive Director of the German Maritime SAR Service (DGzRS) since 2001. He has personally made a huge contribution to improving maritime SAR around the globe, working on behalf of the German Government, the IMRF, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union. Texas civic leaders visit Space Coast
Maj. Gen. Ronald B. “Bruce” Miller, 10th Air Force commander, Naval Air Station Forth Worth, Texas showed up on Florida’s Space Coast with 15 Texas business and community leaders to visit the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida and learn about its mission. During the visit the civic leaders took time out for a group photo in front of a space capsule. The capsule was used by U.S. Air Force rescue personnel in the 67th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron at Royal Air Force Woodbridge to train in recovery operations for both the Apollo and Skylab programs. The capsule has been on loan from the Smithsonian Institute’s National Air and Space museum since 1992 due to the unit’s role in human spaceflight rescue. The PAFB visit was their second stop on Florida’s East Coast after visiting the 482nd Fighter Wing, at Homestead Air Reserve Station, in Miami, earlier that day on April 24, 2019. With precision and planning, a 39th Rescue Squadron crew piloting an HC-130N combat-search-and-rescue aircraft, swept over the funeral of Air Force Colonel Rick A. Kibbey, a fellow rescue aviator, who was brought home from Vietnam after being missing in action for more than 50 years allowing his family to lay him to rest. On April 9, 2019, Colonel Kibbey's eldest son, Retired Lt. Col. Rick Kibbey, and his wife Liz, visited the crew who performed the flyover to thank them. From left to right: Loadmaster, MSgt Dean Scalise; Aircraft Commander, Lt Col Casey Sreenan; Radio Operator, SMSgt Kevin Zimmerman; Flight Engineer, SMSgt Michael Decker; Retired Lt. Col. On April 9, 2019, the crew presented two flags to Colonel Kibbey's eldest son, Retired Lt. Col. Rick Kibbey, and his wife Liz, who visited the crew at Patrick Air Force Base, where the two also work. The crew consisted of: MSgt Dean Scalise; Aircraft Commander, Lt Col Casey Sreenan; Radio Operator, SMSgt Kevin Zimmerman; Flight Engineer, SMSgt Michael Decker; Retired Lt. Col.
