General pins medal on Rescue Wing Airmen

Bruno, Chief of Flight Medicine for the 920th Areomedical Staging Squadron here, is awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal by Air Force Reserve commander Lt. Gen John A. PATRICK Air Force Base, Fla -- Employers of Air Force Reservists assigned to the 920th Rescue Wing here pose for a picture in front of an HC-130P/N Hercules aircraft during Employer's Day at the June Unit Training Assembly. The 920th RW is the only Air Force Reserve Wing that performs Combat Search And Rescue which keeps its Airmen busier than an average Air Force Reserve Wing. The Wing is comprised of 1,200 Airmen and flies both fixed and rotor wing aircraft: the HC-130P/N extended-range Hercules and the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter.

Florida Council presents gift to deployed reservists
Brevard County Florida Civilian-Military (CivMil) Council boardmembers, Mr. David Spain and Mr. Kendall Moore (middle and right), presented a check for $1,500 to 920th Rescue Wing Commander, Col. Steve Kirkpatrick (left), April 24 for Rescue Wing Reservists who were deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Twelve of the Air Force Reservists arrived home safely after completing a six-month deployment to Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq. The reservists originally deployed with 13 Airmen, but one team member, Senior Airman Diane Lopes, was severely wounded during a September mortar attack and evacuated to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Md. where she continues to undergo physical therapy for her injuries. Airman Lopes sent a video message to her fellow Airmen here to watch while they enjoy a welcome-home celebration at a restaurant local to Patrick Air Force base with their families.

A Sound Birthday Bash for Legendary Aviator
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force Reservists and female aviator, Staff Sgt. Jennifer Drake, 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., attended the Women in Aviation International Conference March 13-15 MAR. While there she put her percision honor guard skills into action helping to coordinate a memorable 85th surprise birthday celebration for aviation legend, Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager (Ret.). Sergeant Drake, also a former Broadway performer, sang Happy Birthday, which she reflected as an unparalleled occasion saying it was the only time I've had to practice that song. General Yeager was a U.S. Air Force noted test pilot who in 1947 became the first pilot, at age 24, to travel faster than the sound in level flight and ascent.

A Bundle of Joy
Rescue Reservist Tech. Sgt. Michael Fuller, 920th Rescue Wing Life Support Technician, assembles a four-wheeler quad bundle at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., to ready it for airdrop from an HC-130P/N Extended-Range Hercules aircraft. The quad will deploy along with pararescuemen (PJs) from the back of the aircraft as part of pararescue jump training. PJs train extensively using a variety of equipment to for rescuing isolated personnel behind enemy lines during wartime.
