Cocoa Beach Air Show Director
COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- Cocoa Beach Air Show Director Bryan Lilley announces some of the highlights that will be at this year's air show prior to a ceremony held Sept. 11 saluting the military in Cocoa Beach. The 920th Rescue Wing from Patrick Air Force Base conducted a Search and Rescue operation involving Pararescuemen parachuting from unit-equipped HC-130P/N aircraft into the ocean and a rescue operation with the unit's HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter which also performed during a air-to-air refueling demonstration with the HC-130P/N. The 920th Rescue Wing will conduct similar capability demonstrations during the Cocoa Beach air show scheduled for October 2-4 at Alan Shepard Park along Highway A1A in. Citizen Airmen depart with a century of experience
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Three Air Force Reserve Chief Master Sergeants with the 920th Rescue Wing here closed a chapter on their military careers during a ceremony at the Base Theater June 7. Chief Master Sgts. Bill Gatlin, Ewing Swaney, and Charles Ferrell will retire with 101 years of collective military experience between them. Chief Gatlin will retire with 33 years of service as a standards and evaluations loadmaster. Chief Swaney will retire with 33 years as a first sergeant for the maintenance squadron. Pilot gives lessons in Afghan culture
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - Air Force Reserve helicopter pilot, Lt. Col. Joe Alcorn, visits his son's 2nd grade class May 22 at Gemini Elementary in Melbourne Beach after a four-month deployment to Afghanistan. He showed the class images of an Afghan school he visited while there. The images showed Afghani children who were the recipients of school supplies donated by the 2nd graders. During the show and tell students made observations about the differences between them and the Afghan students and asked questions about the country. They also kept in touch with Colonel Alcorn through email while he was deployed. Mrs. Debra Ruscillo, the class teacher, said learning is always better when you can relate it to real-life situations. Kevin Zimmerman gets ready to climb inside the Space Shuttle Atlantis wearing a sterile suit where he works as the mid-body electrical lead. When he's not sending shuttles into space, he serves as an HC-130P/N Combat Radio Operator with the 920th Rescue Wing here. The shuttle Atlantis is set to return to Earth May 23 after mission specialists completed the fifth and final mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope. Bundles of joy
PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. - This Airman hugging his two young daughters was among thirty of Brevard's Reserve Rescuers who returned home today from Afghanistan after four months of performing medical evacuation missions working with U.S. Army units. These Citizen Airmen conducted 2,000 medical evacuation missions flying HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopters loaded with aircrew and pararescuemen to save lives. More than half of these medical evacuations were due to combat action. They helped saved more than 570 people and two military working dogs. They provided life saving medical care to U.S. military members, coalition forces, as well as Afghani soldiers and citizens including 47 children and four enemy patients. (U.S. Air Force Photo/Capt.
